EVERYTIME I see the show "Avatar: The Last Airbender" or artwork from it (with the big blue arrow on his head), I picture THIS marking in my imgination, the squadron identifier for the 509th Composite Group during WW2.
Well this squadron marking came long before the show, so... *raspberry*
Since this is the B-29 named "Bockscar" and it dropped the second operational atomic bomb over Nagasaki, I would say that it could be called an "Airbender" as well!
The latest in a long line of twisted cartoon and history combinations! Actually the whole reason I took this picture!
(edit: I know it wasn't actually the second atomic bomb, it was the third. But I'm counting only operational drops, OK? Don't bury me in semantics!)
Now you've made me ask the internet what this Airbender thingy is supposed to be But I get it I think. Lets just hope that this plane dropped the last one ever...
And I second your comment about the atomic stuff. I knew that would come up.
